Think & Drink: The State of Journalism at Gilbert Cellars

10/11/2018

Location: Downtown Yakima
5 N Front St, Yakima, WA 98901

7-8:30 PM Hosted by Humanities WA. Experts, artists, and activists from a variety of disciplines participate in a moderate discussion, with a strong emphasis of audience participation.

Join us at Gilbert Cellars to Think & Drink about The State of Journalism!  Journalism plays a vital role in a democracy—a free press is among the first institutions to be gutted in an autocracy—and a thriving press is a sign of civic health. But dramatically falling revenue, the decimation of smaller newspapers, and an increasing reliance on the whims of a few social media companies for reach has thrown the industry into turmoil.

Join us as we examine the state of the news, featuring Joanna Markell, city editor of the Yakima Herald; Tracy Simmons, journalist and Gonzaga professor; and Cynthia Mitchell, Central Washington University professor.

Event is free and open to the public. but you need to register at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3607005

This event is part of our fall statewide series, “Moment of Truth: Journalism and Democracy in an Age of Misinformation.” For more information on this go to: https://www.humanities.org/moment-of-truth/
